Andy Robinson praises players after beating Australia – Rugby News Update
Andy Robinson, the head coach of Scotland, is ecstatic after winning a test against Australia at their own turf and ending the seven-game losing streak.
Scotland has had a horrible 2012, not winning a single game throughout the year but this victory will prepare them well for the challenges that await them in the next few months. They play Fiji and Samoa this month, and will take loads of confidence for
those game.
Robinson relished the victory, saying that the plans they executed worked wonders, and it was about time Scotland achieved a victory for the work they put in.
"I am just delighted for the players and the management who have worked so hard," he said.
He added, "Also the Scottish supporters because it has been tough for them when the games have been so close and the team has been playing well, getting into good positions to win matches but not achieving that."
During the second half of the match, Scotland’s backline was constantly keeping the Wallabies at bay. It was a great job that the defence performed, and Scotland’s captain, Ross Ford, was right in the middle of it.
"Our tackles and breakdown work were good and we held them out," said the captain.
They had to be sound defensively and not give away needless penalties. It was the penalty kicking work of Greig Laidlaw, the Edinburgh fly-half that won the game for the Scots.
He was all praise for the scrum that won the crucial penalty in the last minutes of the game that Laidlaw duly converted.
Laidlaw was concerned about the weather, and he was not sure if the ball would go over the post, but having converted 2 out of 3 penalties prior to the last one, he was feeling confident.
He said, "Defence has won us that game. One to 15, the guys were fantastic. We defended as a team and made a blue wall across the park."
Robinson wants his players to keep their feet on the ground and not get carried away by the result.
