Andy Roddick's participation increases money raised in Mark Knowles' charity event – Tennis News
Former world number one, Andy Roddick took part in the charity event that was being hosted in Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas and managed to raise $150,000 money. 11th annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational has been conducting
these charitable events on regular intervals and has collected around $800,000 money in total for the needy people.
Andy Roddick was accompanied by the likes of Amer Delic, Jesse Levine, Xavier Malisse and Nicholas Monroe. There were some WTA players present at the event as well that included Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Vania King, Olga Savchuk and
Yasmin Schnack. The co-owner of the event and four time Grand Slam champion, Mark Knowles, was also one of the members that attended this event for a noble event.
Knowles said “It was great to have Andy here. Not only is he one of the best players of his generation but he has established himself as someone who wants to make a difference off the court. He is incredibly philanthropic and dedicated
to improving other people's lives.”
The event attracted a large number of people especially the tennis fanatics that were fascinated by the appearance of their superstar and enjoyed their most precious moment talking with him and grabbing his autographs.
He was talking to the media representatives about his presence at the event and while being questioned that why did he chose to come all the way to Bahamas for this event, he said, “I'm just glad to be here. There's a bigger cause
to how well we play tennis this week. Most of us are in our off season, so it's just fun. I had some in-laws and some friends come down too, so it's been a great getaway for us. We had some fun too."
American was scheduled to be visiting the same event in 2009 but couldn’t participate due to injury issues and had to apologize to the event organizers. This year he was excited to have made it to such a noble cause and was thrilled
to have played for dignified intention.
Exhibition matches were contested for the four days of this month that officially kicked-off from Dec 1 but not before a mega cocktail party was being thrown by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Atlantis Resort & Casino. Party
was followed up by a pro-doubles tournament and then the CEO of MDC Partners, Miles Nadal, arranged a welcome dinner for all the participants and officials along with some guests.
Roddick looks forward to attending such events that provide him a great feel of accomplishment.
