Andy Roddick expresses his views on his present form
The top ranked American tennis ace, Andy Roddick was knocked down by Simon Gilles in the third round match of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic Championship 2010 in Washington D.C. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3 in a time period of more than seventy minutes.
The twenty seven years old American after the match commented, “Something is definitely going wrong and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible”.
While commenting on the pressure being an American player, Roddick after the match said,
"That is not a justification for performing the way I did tonight, as I have been facing this pressure situation since I was eighteen years of age. So it wasn’t a new or different situation for me at all, to crumble in the most important match of the tournament”, said Roddick after Gilles thrashed him out of the tournament in a two setter match.
"Being the player on the banner for promoting a championship isn’t anything new for me”, he added.
The second seeded American did not manage to play at his very best and as a result was out aced by the French Tennis ace 7-3 during the seventy minutes encounter.
“It was not my day. I really don’t have much to say in my favour”, a depressed Roddick pleasantly told the reporters. "I am really out of words at the moment. I didn’t feel comfortable neither physically nor mentally. In short it was a poor display from my side”, he added.
The average age of a top hundred player on the tour is around twenty seven and that describes Roddick’s story who is about to turn twenty eight within a couple of weeks. The American is losing his focus along with his physical strength on the tour.
The ninth ranked American tennis ace, Andy Roddick also admitted the fact in an interview after the match that things are not going his way at the moment. Roddick said, “ I am also worried about my recent form and shape as I am completely aware of the fact more than anyone else that I am not playing the way I am capable of and it has affected my level of confidence to a great deal of extent as well. I am feeling lazy and out of energy over the recent past which is a serious matter for me. I don’t enjoy nights like this one”, he commented.
"It could be anything may be a vitamin dearth however I promise all my fans that I will soon figure it out and come back strongly and will damage my reputation”, Roddick added.
As far as his third round loss of the Legg Mason tennis Classic championship is concerned, Roddick did commit a couple of mistakes as well that further paved the way for Gilles to grab the victory against the ninth ranked American.
Simon Gilles on the other hand, who is listed thirty three in the world’s ranking, did well to convert majority of the break point chances versus the American during the third round match.
"Thankfully I played better than Roddick”, said Simon, who didn’t manage to grab a set versus Roddick in their last two clashes. "When he was looking to play from the baseline, I was more accurate than him”.
"And when he went for an aggressive style of game, he committed a couple of mistakes that further gave me confidence”, Simon added.
Roddick, who participated in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic tournament as his second competition since Wimbledon 2010, refused to blame his current poor form as a result of his light schedule.
"The only single reason that I am playing poorly at the moment is because I am playing like a stupid. I noticed that I didn’t hit the ball accurately today throughout the match”, Roddick said. “In my opinion, it has nothing to do with my opponent as things are going wrong from my side”, he added.
