Andy Roddick eyeing to recreate his magic at the US Open – Tennis Special
Former world number one, Andy Roddick, is looking forward to re-ignite his spark at the US Open, last of the four Grand Slam events held in Queens, New York City. He has recently lifted his game and has captured two year-to-date
titles this circuit.
The American icon is not at his best since a year and a half after suffering from injuries. However, he raised the bar of his game again this circuit and after claiming the titles, Roddick equal record of Roger Federer of lifting
at least one title for the past 12 seasons.
“I think my challenge for the last year and a half has been physical,” Roddick was quoted in a press conference. “But I finally got continuous matches in. When you're battling injuries, not playing your best, sometimes you lose,
you're getting one match a week.”
The 29-year-old made a sloppy start at this circuit and pulled out from the second round at Australian Open due to hamstring injury. He entered this first Grand Slam event standing at world number 16 but fell a spot after his injury.

Roddick managed to secure a quarter-final berth at the SAP Open in San Jose the following month but exited from the opening round at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis. As a result, he fell to the 30th
rank in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings.
The American veteran made another quarter-final appearance at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (lost to South African number one Kevin Anderson) but exited from early round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells
the following week (edged out by seventh seeded Tomas Berdych). As a result, Roddick moved down to 34th rank in the ATP rankings.
The former US Open titlist, Roddick reached the third round at the Sony Ericsson Open and recorded his best match after stomping over the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. However, after losing to Juan Monaco in the following round,
he fell to a six match losing streak.
He crashed out to Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the opening round at the AEGON Championships in Queens Club, first Wimbledon warm-up event of the season. However, the American made a spectacular reply at the AEGON International in
Eastbourne. He breezed past his rivals before dumping third seeded Andreas Seppi in title-round, eventually grabbing his maiden year-to-date title.
Roddick then made a third round showing at the Wimbledon Championships in London (lost to David Ferrer) before entering at the BB&T Atlanta Open. He maintained his intensity and after stunning American number one John Isner he
set up a final round date with Gilles Muller. The American rallied past Muller in a three-set thriller to capture the title.
The Jubilant American stated after lifting his 32nd career title at this ATP World Tour 250 series event:
“I’ve won 32 times now and every one of them, I’ve never assumed I was going to win again. I’ve always appreciated it... I go through the process of playing, work hard, and hope that I can put myself in position enough times to
create some success.”
After capturing the title at this US Open build-up tournament, Roddick not only improved to a 32-20 in the final rounds but also became the leading player at the 2012 Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge Standings. He
is the only player to atop the series twice since its inception in 2004. The American veteran earned the limelight in 2005 and 2006 and is eyeing to reach far in the following tournaments of this series and recreate his magic at the US Open.
