Andy Roddick hoping to regain his form prior to the US Open 2010
Born on August 30, 1982 in the city of Nebraska, the former world number one American tennis ace, Andy Roddick is currently ranked number nine in the world by the ATP. Roddick captured his very first Grand Slam title back in 2003 after winning the final of the clay court French Open competition against Juan Carlos Ferrero. The twenty seven years old American has so far made his way into the finals of the four major events, three of them at the Wimbledon tournament and once at the United States Open championship in the city of New York.
As far as Roddick’s recent form and performances are concerned, the 1.88 meters tall Roddick is looking to compensate for his poor grass court Grand Slam show by performing well in the hard court summer season.
In an interview on Monday, the ninth ranked American, Andy Roddick while commenting on his current form said that, “long training sessions have really boosted his level of confidence and has given him a new hope in spite of the fact that he has faced early exits on a total of sixteen occasions in a row at the All England Club with a more recent one just a few weeks ago”.
"I am playing in a totally different manner now as compared to some two weeks ago”, said Roddick, who is seeded number two for the hard court competition in Washington. While commenting on the Legg Mason Tennis Classic event that started from Monday, the American said that, “I am really looking forward to it”.
After his five set defeat at the hands of the Taiwanese professional tennis player, Lu Yen-Hsun at the grass court Grand Slam competition this season, Roddick went to Texas in disappointment in order to find his lost charm.
The heavy hitting American tennis ace came back at Atlanta just about two weeks ago where he was knocked down by Mardy Fish in the semi final battle at the All England Club.
Roddick while commenting on his Atlanta performance said, "I contested in Atlanta as I wanted to perform well here in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in the city of Washington. I am happy that I participated there and get myself prepared for the upcoming challenges”, he added.
"Last season I needed a break after the grass court Grand Slam tournament. This season however is a different story. I want to practice more and more in order to perform well in the upcoming fourth Grand Slam event, the United States Open of the season”, he added.
A season ago Andy made his way into the finals of the grass court Grand Slam tournament prior falling down by the Swiss tennis master, Roger Federer in a total of five sets. However, the American couldn’t manage to carry on with his good show at the US Open and was kicked off by John Isner in the round number three of the competition.
This season Roddick stands at 28-5 on the hard surface including his Miami success in the Sony Ericsson Open competition as well as his Masters Series trophy for the first time after a period of four years.
As far as his record in Washington is concerned, the American has so far won the Legg Mason Tennis Classic competition three times in his career. While commenting on this year’s Washington event, he said, “I always get excited about this event."
According to Roddick, "The next three competitions namely the Washington, Toronto as well as Cincinnati will serve as a tune up events prior to the upcoming US Open tournament of this year”.
Therefore, he is definitely looking forward to play as much as he can in order to get back in form prior to the major event at Flushing Meadows in the city of New York.
