Andy Roddick motivated to begin the 2011 season on a high
The American tennis ace Andy Roddick is highly motivated to start his 12th full season on the ATP tour by playing at the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open next month in Melbourne.
Lance Hooten, who is the physical trainer of Roddick while commenting on his next year’s plans said, “I have not seen him this motivated for some time. Andy has always been a grinder, a hard worker; you have to put reins on him
all the time because he is always going to work too hard, too long and too much.”
The 28-year-old Roddick finished the 2010 season ranked number eight in the world. He picked up two crowns this season and was also finalist at Indian Wells and San Jose. The professional tennis ace from the United States of America
also successfully qualified for the season end tournament in London on the eight occasion in his career. Moreover, Roddick also reached back to back finals at the Masters Series 1000 competition in Miami and Indian Wells.
The Texas resident started his 2010 campaign by playing at the Brisbane International as seeded number one to win the title. He did well to make his way into the finals where the right hander overpowered Radek Stepanek in three
sets to pick up his first ATP Tour crown since last year. The final match score was 7–6(2), 7–6(7).
At the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne, Andy Roddick couldn’t go beyond the quarterfinal stage as he was crushed at the hands of Marin Cilic in five sets. The score line was 7–6(4) 6–3 3–6 2–6 6–3.
Former world number one then took part in the 2010 SAP Open, where he made his way into the finals before falling to Fernando Verdasco in three sets. The final match score was 7–6(5), 7–6(4). At the 2010 BNP Paribas Open, Andy advanced
into the semis where he met Robin Soderling and successfully hammered him down in three sets. In the title battle, the American was eventually beaten by Ivan Ljubicic in three sets. The score line was 7–6(3), 7–6(5).
At the major events in 2010, Roddick was stunned in the fourth round at Wimbledon by Lu Yen Hsun of Taiwan in five sets. The final match score was 6–4, 6–7(3), 6–7(4), 7–6(5), 7–9. The American was also beaten in the second and
third round of United States Open and French Open respectively to end his 2010 Grand Slam campaign on a disappointing note.
He is now looking for a fresh start in 2011 and therefore has already started practicing hard on the court.
Doug Spreen, who is the physio of Roddick said, “The planning and talking about it started the day that the season ended. At that point he and Larry Stefanki had a chance to sit down and talk and go over a few things. Within a
few days of getting back to Austin he was already starting to do some conditioning work and strength training, so it started up pretty quick.  The goal coming out of December is that when you go down to Australia you want to feel good. The goal is to find
a happy medium where you continue to do a lot of work to get yourself in shape, but at the same time you want to show up in Australia feeling healthy and hopefully a little bit rejuvenated.”
Apart from the physical training and practice, Roddick has also been playing great attention to his diet and has added lots of fresh fruits and vegetables along with protein supplements through the day.
With all the hard work done, the top American star will travel all the way to Australia as a four time former semifinalist in Melbourne, with lots of experience and the confidence of feeling healthy and fit on the tour. Therefore,
Roddick should not be under estimated at all as he has all the talent in the world to give a tough time to both Nadal and Federer without any question.
