Andy Roddick pulls out of the 2011 Delray Beach Tennis Championship due to health issues

Seeded no. 1 at the 2011 Delray Beach International Tennis Championship, Andy Roddick of the United States unfortunately will not be playing the tournament in the presence of his hometown fans, as the professional decided not to make an appearance at the event
due to health issues. Andy played his first Association of Tennis Professionals' tournament at Delray Beach back in the year 2000.

Roddick stated that he cited an illness that brought with it nagging cough and high fever. According to the professional, as he awoke on Sunday, he felt like he had gotten hit by a bus.

"I'm very disappointed. I've waited too long to come back and play this tournament. At the same time, the last thing I wanted was to get out there for five games then leave people in the lurch," added Andy.

According to Roddick, his main focus at the moment is to get healthy for a Davis Cup match which is to be played in Chile next week, apart from concentrating on tournaments that are to be played at Palm Springs, Key Biscayne and California in the coming few
months.

The American has been unable to play at the Delray Beach events since the year 2003 due to conflicts in his schedule. However, Roddick was expected to play this year and was a favorite and one of the main attractions at the tournament. Tickets for Andy's match,
which was to be played on Tuesday, sold for over $150.

As disappointed as Mark Barron - the director of the tournament - was to hear that Andy would not be playing, he announced that the tickets bought specifically to watch Roddick play would not be refunded.

In the words of Mark, it was the strongest draw they had ever had in their history, as it featured James Blake and John Isner of the United States. Isner was however, knocked out of the tournament as he lost 4-6, 7-5 and 6-7 (13) by Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili.

Additionally, players such as Sam Querrey of the United States, Brazil's Ricardo Mello and Frenchman Florent Senna made it through the first round of the tournament to proceed to the next.
