Andy Roddick; thrashed by Wawrinka: The former world number one Andy Roddick has been hammered in the ongoing Australian Open by the Swiss tennis star Stanislas Wawrinka at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
The former world number nine Wawrinka proved to be a bit too tough for the American tennis giant as Roddick failed to deliver his best in the match. The current world number 14 Stanislas snatched the marvellous win by 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4.
No doubt it was one of the most memorable performances by the Swiss veteran as beating world top players like Andy Roddick is never easy. Moreover the win has earned him a lot of boost for the next round of the tournament as well. After the match the twenty five years old Swiss veteran seemed quite delighted with his performance.
While talking to the media he expressed his views by saying that his performance in the match was thoroughly unbelievable and it was no doubt one of the best performances of his career. He further added that beating Roddick in three sets is no doubt a huge achievement and he is quite happy with the way he has played in the match.
In the match Wawrinka broke the serve of Andy three times which is strong proof of his current good form. On the other hand the recent defeat is very disappointing for Andy Roddick as he was aiming for the trophy of the tournament and was pretty motivated with his performance after a long time.
After the match Roddick seemed pretty upset and was of the view that the weather conditions were the major cause of his defeat. He said that the weather conditions were not as hot as expected. He further added that the ball was not bouncing high and that made the game a bit easier for Wawrinka.
Though the victory has earned Wawrinka a lot of confidence and inspiration for further stages but his next match is not going to be less than a test for him. The former world number nine Wawrinka is going to face the defending champ Roger Federer in his next match. According to the media the upcoming match is going to be the toughest match for Stanislas because crushing Federer would be like a dream come true for him. Moreover the current world number two Roger Federer is enjoying the best form of his career and looking ready for another world Grand Slam title.
It is also to be notified that Federer has won six matches out of the seven he has played against Stanislas Wawrinka. In the very recent match Federer outclassed his Spanish rival Tommy Robredo to qualify for the next stage of the event. Federer has qualified for the quarter finals stage of the Australian Open for the twenty seventh time consecutively. He cruised past Robredo by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
In other important matches of the tournament the former world number two Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic saw off his opponent Nicolas Almagro of Spain by 6-3, 6-4 and 6-0.
