Andy Schleck improving his skills against the clock for the next Tour de France – Cycling News
Andy Schleck who finished as a runner up in the Tour de France, 2011 is working on his individual time trial skills as he revealed it to the media. The 26-year-old who is trying his luck in cycling’s most celebrated event for a long time now as it was the
third year he ended up as a runner up. Previous two years by the hands of Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador and this year by Cadel Evans of Australia.
Andy is considered amongst the best when it comes to the climbing stages of the race but he has a slight hindrance in the time trials as he said, “If I want to one day win the Tour de France, I need to get better against the clock. We conducted tests with
the team to improve my performance against the clock, but it was clearly not enough. In the end, I lost the Tour on the second to last day.”
Schleck is working hard to improve his time trial skills as he has realised that the only way he could win the Tour de France in coming years is by enhancing his skills with the clock. Cyclist is looking forward to gain more muscle in order to have more
strength as he stated, “I also want to gain power, but I have to pay attention to that, increased muscle mass will mean that I will be heavier. I feel it in the climbs. I’ll have to find a good compromise.”
Andy was holding the yellow jersey as he started the 42.5 kilometre individual time trial stage 20 with an advantage of 53 seconds over the Australian. Cadel Evans who was the favourite for the time trials stage managed to overcome the lead as Andy finished
s further 1 minute and 34 seconds behind Cadel.
It will be interesting to see how Schleck manages to improve his skills against the clock, as he prepares for some of the biggest tournaments in Cycling.
