Andy Schleck looks forward to the 2011 Amgen Tour of California
Andy Schleck looks forward to the 2011 Amgen Tour of California which will be starting on Sunday, May 15. It has overall eight stages and Andy Schleck longs to win a stage.
He will not be the only contestant of the tour from his team, Leopard Trek. There are other members of the team who would participate in the eight-day Amgen Tour of California, including Linus Gerdemann. The team is expecting him to put up a great game.
Andy Schleck expects a strong race from his side. He said that he has been practising for a week now, and is in a good shape. Andy is expecting a stage win at least. The two ascents in the tour which were recently added will give Andy an advantage. The two
uphill finishes, which includes the stage four and the stage 7, are apparently in the favour of Andy Schleck as ascents are his strengths.
He further explained that he has already participated in the Amgen Tour of California three times before and this is the hardest of them all.
Andy disclosed that his aim for the year is the Tour de France. He further said that this won't come to you as a surprise as this is my aim long time from now. Adding to this he said that as this Amgen Tour of California was now conflicting with the dates
of 2011 Giro d'Italia because it was delayed from February to May, he chose Tour of California. He explains the reason saying that 2011 Giro d'Italia is getting harder and hectic year after year, and if he longs to perform commendably in the Tour de France
he needs to skip Giro d'Italia.
Andy Schleck came second on the podium in the Tour de France in the past two years and is now among the favourites. He said that he can proudly say that he will be this year's favourite in the Tour de France if you consider the overall ratings.
He talked about Contador saying that if he manages to participate in the race by escaping the doping case, he will also be one of the favourites. He further said that he is concentrating on his game and not on the other cyclists.
2011 can be the year for Andy Schleck to stride up and win the Tour de France as per his expectations. He has got a very strong cycling record. He’s been the Tour’s Best Young Rider three times and is ending at the second place in Tour de France for the
last two years.
