Andy Schleck treated for knee injuries in May
Andy Schleck disclosed that he had a major knee treatment earlier in May which explains his dipping performance in the earlier part of the 2012 season.
The cyclist had a terrific past season but could not continue his tremendous form in the current part of the season.
Andy is currently busy testing his luck at the Criterium du Dauphine and is targeting the final general classifications at the race.
He told De Telegraaf, “Therefore it is not surprising that I am behind the competition in the Dauphiné”.
“I think that I have gotten better over the past three days. I don't feel the panic which some other people feel because I was dropped in the first stage. I'm not panicking”.
"He literally told me: 'do not panic, I'll be ready for the Tour'. I believe him. He’s been there in the past. I just hope that he is not on the back foot heading into the Tour”.
Schleck’s main goal of the 2012 season is the Tour de France and the cyclist is striving hard to hit the required form ahead of the race.
The 26-year-old started his professional pursuit with Team CSC in 2005 and spent a period of six years with the side.
He accepted an offer from Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and is continuing his second consecutive season with the side.
Andy holds as many as seven Grand Tour appearances to his credit including one Giro d’Italia, four Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations under his belt.
He finished second during the Giro D’Italia 2007 and occupied the second podium spot during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 versions of the Tour de France.
Schleck was awarded with a first place finish at the Tour de France 2010 after the CAS disqualified Contador because of doping.
The Tour de France 2012 is scheduled from June 30 to July 22 and winner of the race will be awarded with a 200 UCI points.
The second and the third position holders will receive a 150 and 120 UCI points in the respective order.
Only time will tell if Andy finds his last year’s winning momentum at the Tour de France 2012.
