Andy Schleck unavailable for the GP de Montréal and GP de Québec – Cycling News
The Luxembourg cyclist Andy Schleck will miss his chances to participate in the two upcoming events in Canada as he is undergoing tooth surgery. The Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec in Canada is returning for its second year after a successful debut on September
10, 2010 as the race this year will be held on September 9.
Andy will miss out on the opportunity to participate in the one day road race won by the French cyclist Thomas Voeckler last year.
The 26-year-old will also miss the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal held two days after the GP de Quebec in Canada as the Rabobank cyclist Robert Gesink of Netherlands won the first edition of the race last year. The race this year will be held with the gap
of two days from the GP de Quebec and will begin on September 11.
During the USA Pro Cycling Challenge 2011 Andy experienced problems with his left wisdom tooth and required surgery for the same purpose as he mentioned, “Complications demanded the surgical removal of the tooth.”
Fabian Wegmann and Brice Feillu will be amongst the top riders in Leopard Trek during Andy’s absence as he is expected to return on September 14 and will participate at the GP Wallonie if everything goes as planned.
The seven cyclists to represent team Leopard Trek in the GP de Montreal 2011 and GP de Quebec 2011 will comprise of Brice Feillu, Anders Lund, Fabian Wegmann, Martin Mortensen, Stefan Denifl, Tom Stamsnijder and Bruno Pires.
The Luxembourg rider shared his thoughts on missing out the two road races as he said, “I regret that I can’t take part in these two races because I love racing in North America, and I was very excited by the idea of taking part in these two Canadian races.”
Serge Arsenault who is the organiser for the two road races in Canada commented about the unavailability of the cyclist as he stated, “It’s a disappointment but we understand his decision and we wish Andy good health, hoping to see him on our roads next
year.”
Andy Schleck was seconds behind Cadel Evans in the Tour de France 2011 and he is working hard to improve his time trial skills as he believes that the only difference between him and Evans was his time trials performance. Andy is looking to gain more strength
and muscle mass and was seen beefing up on a pizza as a part of the programme to improve his performance against the clock. It is expected that he will put on some muscle by next year as he gets ready for the Tour de France 2012.
