Andy Soucek has said that Mercedes GP will be the big surprise in 2011 season - Formula 1 update
Former Formula 2 champion and last year’s Virgin test driver, Andy Soucek, has predicted that the up-coming season will be contested between the two drivers from Red Bull and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. He also mentioned, other than these teams, Mercedes
GP seems, very strong and it could be expected that the team will give the big surprise at the end of the season.
All Formula 1 teams are busy learning their new package setups and most of them have moved towards the Australian grid. The drivers really worked hard over the winter testing and now they are looking forward to a successful and positive season.
Twelve teams, except for HRT, participated in the final Barcelona test, where they tested the hard and soft Pirelli compounds and completed their last test session. The Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher made an inspiring run and landed among the stronger
drivers and posted the fastest time of the week on the time-sheets, while Nico Rosberg also gave a dominating performance for Mercedes. Most teams expect competition from Mercedes because of its good progress so far.
Two days ago, Formula 1 Mercedes GP driver Schumacher admitted that the team will become a championship contender in 2011 season. He further added, in order to win the title, it is important for him to stay strong and keep concentrated on the work consistently
over the season.
The seven-time world champion is confident ahead of the season races because he has completely mastered the upgraded package from Mercedes and is confident with the testing of the new Pirelli tyres.
He went on to say, "I am confident that we can compete for podium finishes, and I am hopeful we can fight for victories at some of the races." The 42-year-old Schumacher further said, he is part of a highly competitive sport, so nobody can expects things
will always run as he desired.
He stated that the team is going in the right direction and is in better condition than last year. He further added that Mercedes should retain its positive position into the 2011 races. He told the media, "Anyway, with the car we will be able to fight for
the top places, and that is good news. The team did a great job."
On the other hand, Schumacher highly appreciated Sebastian Vettel and said, "Red Bull looks very strong, and therefore, Sebastian is a favourite going into the season.”
With Soucek’s vote on their side, Vettel is already looking like a 2011 season winner. This view has been further bolstered by Schumacher and his statements. It seems that the upcoming season might be a very surprising affair.
