Andy Zhang proves that he is a 14-year-old kid, starts the US Open with a triple-double bogey!
The record breaking youngest entry at the US Open is facing trouble, as lack of experience and major championship pressure has taken hold of the 14-year-old Andy Zhang.
His first round at the US Open saw him dazed and confused. He was all over the headlines after making a wild card entry in the tournament and was thought to make history as the youngest golfer to participate in the US Open. However, it was clear that he
still is a kid after all.
He opened his first game with a triple-double bogey and continued with more bogeys till his final score of a nine-over 79.
Zhang is at the bottom of the leaderboard and is thought to make an early exit, keeping in mind his start at the US Open. He would require something magical to comeback in the tournament and stand up against names like Tiger Woods, Michael Thompson and Rory
McIlroy.
Woods started his US Open venture with precision and brilliant stroke play. The world saw the old Tiger who was invincible in his career and gave full-throttle entertainment to the golf lovers.
McIlroy is already facing trouble as he complained a little too much about the course, rather than identifying the bad aspects of his own play at the starting round of the US Open.
World number one Luke Donald is a victim of a tsunami of pressure as the entire England is relying on Donald to lift the US Open trophy. He flunked in his first round and failed to get a single birdie.
The top-3 golfers in the world have made a bad start to the US Open and things are looking pretty shaky.
Lee Westwood may be among the top-3 golfers of the world but his start to the US Open gave a slightly different angle to his position in the global ranking. He joined McIlroy and Donald among the golfers who did not perform as they should have.
Zhang ended his first round with a positive thought and admitted the US Open being tough.
“I've been playing really well lately. I expected myself to go out there and get a lot out of my round. I still left a few out there but you have to accept that, it's the US Open it's going to happen,” said the 14-year-old.
Zhang may look like a kid but he seriously needs to play like a man to cultivate as a golfer in the US Open and other tournaments, as golf is definitely not an easy game to make a mark at.
