john roddick resigned after washinton, leaving andy without a coach, so he asked pat mcenroe to coach him during the open, but only during the open.-

who do you think he should hire as his new coach??

or should he stay without a coach like fed did last year??

i think john mcenroe would be cool, it would be interesting to watch how their personalities work together .-

and if isn't mac, then he should get brad gilbert again!!

what do you think??

  2. It's hard to say, because a lot would depend on what Roddick is looking for in a coach---if he is looking to improve certain aspects of his game or if he is looking more for psychological support.  If he was looking to improve his net game, for example, Tony Roche would be a good choice because he is known as having one of the all-time great volleys, but I don't know if Roche is in the full-time coaching business. This is an interesting question, because I sometimes wonder if coaches of some of the top players are just glorified hitting partners or if they are really working to help the players improve their mechanics and work on match strategies, etc.

  3. I think John Mcenroe would be a bad coaching choice. Before Patrick Mcenroe took over as coach, JM was the US Davis Cup captain. He made the players on his squad very unhappy with his coaching style. JM coaches just like he plays, he throws tantrums when things don't go his way.

Agassi and Sampras have very young kids at home so I doubt they would want to go back out on tour which would require them to be away from their families for long periods of time.

Connors parted ways with Roddick because it was only supposed to be a short term partnership to begin with. Connors made it clear early on that he did not want to be a full time traveling coach because he did not want to travel.

I think a good coach for Roddick would be his former Davis Cup teammate, Todd Martin. Martin has strategic and analytical intelligence that Roddick could benefit from.

Todd Martin also has a young family at home so I think realistically Roddick should try to get the "bachelor" Jim Courier in his box. I'm not sure their personalities would be a match but Courier is one of the last Americans to win Roland Garros. He's an all surface player who's been to the final of all 4 slams. He could help Roddick with the patience that seems to be lacking from his game recently.

  4. I hope Andy find a coach soon.  Why doesn't he get Roger Federer's last coach?  He doesn't need to be without a coach long.  Look what happened to Roger.  He started sliding way down hill.

  5. I don't think Jonny Mac would be interested. I think he should go back to Jimmy Connors. I am not sure if that is likely as I am not sure what are the exact reasons were as to why they seperated in the first place. But the fact is that Andy was playing his best tennis under Connors and needs someone who can get the best out of him again.

I think he needs another idol of his, Maybe Agassi or Sampras-Someone who he really respects and would be prepared to work for.

Brad Gilbert is a brilliant coach, But he seems to fall out with all his players!!! I think Andy needs someone who can be a hard coach but also like a friend. I think Agassi or Sampras would be great influences on him.
