here's Matt Cronin's analysis of the match, i agree with him, do you?

Don't get too overly excited about the Chilean's chances here, as Roddick owns a 7-3 record against him and has beaten him on every surface. Fernando may be able to wreak havoc against other foes with his titanic forehand, sharp backhand slice and wicked kick serve, but not as much against Roddick. He can't handle the American's serve and simply isn't mentally tough enough to match his loud screams.

Of course, Gonzalez can play with him from the baseline and, like Roddick, is a decent volleyer, but Gonzalez tends to get impatient when he's facing a barrage of aces and service winners, and then his game falls apart.

However, it's clear that the Chilean is on a bit of a roll, having grabbed the Olympic silver and playing cleanly here. He's always played Roddick close but has failed on most occasions to come through on the big points. If he can keep the match tight and play freely, this could be a highly entertaining slugfest. But he has to get off to a good start and not get overwhelmed by what will be a heavily pro-Roddick crowd. America 's top player is in too good of a headspace to go down to a known quantity such as Fernando, but Gonzo will grab a set and make it interesting. Nonetheless, Roddick will advance in four sets

  1. The bomber in 4.

  2. Both ultimate hard court players. Andy will want revenge for James Blake after the whole Olympics incident and with the added incentive of playing in front of his home crowd, I think Andy will win this one but wouldn't be suprised at all if Gonzalez won it.

I think it will be 5 close sets.

  3. I might be the only one who thinks Roddick will win this one easy in straight sets.  I really don't think Gonzo will cause that much trouble for Roddick.

  4. andy

  5. I know Andy was having a mare before this tounry, but he did super well in his first few rounds. I know the first set against Gulbis was shakey but that doesn't mean anything. For once I actually have full faith in Andy to come through this one in three or four. Gonzalez just has a big forehand, but his forehand is pretty rubbish on the run, so Andy's gotta serve big and make him run - dictate the points. And I'm pretty sure he'll get thru.

  6. Of late, I have found it very difficult to instill any confidence at all in Roddick. He seems to lack concentration and allow a couple mistakes to completely fluster him. I just do not see him being able to get past the Fernando. Yet another let down is my prediction, though it should be a very exciting match to watch.

  7. andy has to hold serve to win because he sure cant break serve, gonzo has a better baseline game. the crowd will help roddick, but roddick will come up short. gonzo in four 7-6, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4

  8. Nice analysis! Although Gonzo made it to the finals of the Olympics (I still think it wasn't fair), he lost pretty easily to Rafa. Andy's known for his hard court game, and he's finally getting back into shape. It'll be a really hard match for sure, but I'm going with Roddick! He beat really tough players coming into this quarter-final, and he's getting his old confidence back. His serve's been working really well. I think he'll make it through.

  9. Andy'll win it.
