Ok I have a question.. My sister is pregnant (13 weeks) anyway, she has anemia and shes kinda scared about the amount of blood shes gonna lose during labor and the 6 weeks after having her baby. She passed out a couple days ago while her doctor took blood from her to run some tests. It was a small amount of blood, but anyway back to what i was talking about, shes wondering how its going to affect her after and during childbirth. Is it going to make her faint during childbirth is she going to faint all the time after while shes bleeding. Anyway Does anyone know anything about anemic and childbirth, like how they do it so you dont faint and what not?

  1. I also have anemia. I have been taking iron pills like (Slowfe) during and before I my pregnancies. I am usually very tired and feels like passing out but never did. Anemia runs in my family and I also carry the genes for sickle cell anemia. Your sister should eat foods like spinach, chick peas , beef  and liver, it can help her a lot. A woman with anemia get more weaker during pregnancy because the baby is taking some blood from her  as well. So it is very important that your sister  take some iron pills while she is  pregnant. Or she will feel very weak through her whole pregnancy.

  2. My doctor put me on iron pills to help with my anemia.. and also told me to eat more meats and leafy green vegetables. so maybe if she tried that it would help.. but im pretty sure that increasing her iron would help decrease her chances of fainting as often..

  3. Your sister needs to increase the amount of protein she is eating as this will help to prevent anemia during pregnancy. Make sure when she has a snack, that she is snacking on protein not carbs. More information on the site below for her. Best wishes, G

  4. I am anemic and 31 weeks prego. Sounds like she's a lot more anemic than I am though, cuz I have yet to pass out...although a few times I've felt like I was going to. I have now, and after my recent pregnancy (my daughter is 14 months old) been taking an iron pill every day to help with the anemia. I would think her doc would put her on that right away and she will continue to take it until at least 6 weeks after the baby is born.
