Anestis Arampatzis conquers Men’s 200m butterfly heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Anestis Arampatzis of BAMASE conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m butterfly on second day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Wednesday, March 28.
The 21-year-old Arampatzis dictated terms to his challengers and qualified into the final round as top contender for gold medal. With his impressive performance, he remained prominently ahead of his challengers throughout the race and touched the finishing
wall for first position.
He remained almost half body length ahead of his closest competitor and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 59.69 seconds. His closest competitor, Stefan Hirniak of IS remained 0.33 seconds slower from his former finisher and qualified into the
playoff as second best swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.02 seconds.
The 27-year-old Hirniak was chased by his teammate, Alec Page, who was just 0.14 seconds slower from him over the finishing end and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.16 seconds for third position.
Page was trailed by Mack Darragh of Oak, who remained just 0.19 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing blockade by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.35 seconds for fourth position. The 18-year-old Darragh stayed marginally ahead of his following competitor,
Ramiro Ramirez Juarez of Mexico, who ended fifth by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 00.49 seconds.
The sixth best spot of the event was secured by Thomas Jobin of CASC, who suffered a loss of 1.02 seconds and settled on the wall by clocking 2 minutes and 01.51 seconds.
Similarly, Kyle McIntee of IS snared seventh best qualification spot of the race by completing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 01.53 seconds.
The last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who remained 0.42 seconds slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and earned his way into the playoff as eighth best swimmer by ending his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 01.95
seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will continue for four more days and will end on April 1 after the completion of all events.
