Anfield’s defensive wall needs re-construction
Sources have revealed ambitious plans by Liverpool for the summer transfer window after their manager, Kenny Dalglish, and Director of Football, Damien Comolli, got together to create a fail-proof plan that has enabled the team to rise from the relegation
zone to the fifth position in the English Premier League.
Liverpool’s woes started about two seasons ago when they were struck by financial troubles. Since then they have spiralled downwards in an uncontrollable whirlpool of misery. Last season Liverpool finished in the seventh position in the EPL, while this season
they began one of their worst campaigns in 87 years. However, with arrival of their legendary Scotsman Dalglish from managing their Football Academy, spirits were high once again. Dalglish in essence has reignited the famous fighting spirit of the Merseyside.
Both Dalglish and Comolli have managed to bring some talented players to Anfield to help the Reds achieve a better campaign. They improved their attacking capabilities by bringing in young Englishman Andy Carroll from Newcastle United for 35 million Pounds
and Uruguayan prodigy Luis Suarez from Ajax for 23 million Pounds.
Liverpool’s midfield has plenty of strength but they won’t mind adding a talented youngster to the group. However, they have declared defence as their major concern for next season. Reports have confirmed that owners of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 have allotted as much as
60 million Pounds to the director and gaffer so that they can remove defence from their worries.
Currently, Liverpool’s defensive line up includes Martin Skrtel, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Wilson-c10234. This might not be a bad line up as there are either
aging veterans or rather young talents that compromise a major part of the squad. Therefore, reinforcing the squad will be a good idea.
Out of this group of players, Skrtel is most definitely the future of Anfield. It is expected after Carragher’s retirement at the end of the season he might even grab his title as Mr. Consistent, well that is if his old nick-name of Count Skrtel is forgotten.
Johnson has dealt with his fair share of miseries this season with injuries and off days but now he is back and running and considered among the most talented English right backs. Daniel Agger has been impressive too, making it clear that the youngster has
a bright future ahead of him.
Kyrgiakos is another veteran but with the head of a brick. Even at the age of 31, the Greek knows how to soar above others with his gigantic frame and head the ball away or into the net. However, he still needs to learn how to control the ball. Aurelio has
had a dismissive off season. Injuries and lack of form have been dogging the aging Brazilian and it seems like this could be his last season with Kop.
Young Kelly has been predicted to soon earn cap for the Three Lions if he continues to improve. He is joined by other young defenders like John Flanagan, Jack Robinson and Danny Wilson however they will need a capable teacher and brother on field by their
shoulder through the next couple of seasons if they are to be groomed for the top level.
In general, Liverpool has a bunch of talented youngsters and a couple of mentors. They do need some reconfiguration to produce an impressive wall at the back if they want to continue with their good form and finally earn a position back in the top four of
the English Premier League.
