Angarita wins second stage and Machado takes overall lead in 2011 Vuelta Ciclista a Venezuela
Movistar team’s Marvin Angarita won the second stage of 2011 Vuelta Ciclista a Venezuela on Thursday, July 14. Honorio Machado took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Temblador and ended in Maturin. The 22-year-old Colombian cyclist took the total of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 18 seconds to cover the distance of 126.4 kilometres.
Wilmen Bravo of F.N.Cabrera-Gb.Trujil was the runner-up and Randal Figueroa of Fundadeporte-Carabobo was in the third place.
Frederyk Segura (Alcaldia De Valencia), Felix Garcia (F.Ci. Olinto Silva) and Xavier Quevedo (F.N.Cabrera-Gb.Trujil) were in fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively.
A total 55 cyclists crossed the finish line with the same timing of Sprinter. Rodolfo Camacho (Kino Tachira-C.Guayan) tried his best to catch the 55 cyclists, but failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 56th place with a difference of 9 seconds, ahead
of Yennifer Lopez.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway which included Miguel Ubeto (Loteria Tachira-Drodi), his team-mate, Jose Chacon, and Artur Garcia (Kino Tachira-C.Guayan). All of them gained a lead of few seconds, while Miguel took the sprint.
With few kilometres to go, Jimmy Briceno and Jose Contreras launched the attack, but trio failed to gain a lead while Miguel maintained his lead. When the race entered Alcabala, Andris Hernandez increased his pace and took the third sprint, while in the
final sprint Felix Garcia attacked and took a lead ahead of Frederyk Segura.
Jhon Nava (Kino Tachira-C.Guayan) took the overall King of Mountain ahead of Pedro Gutierrez (Gobierno Del Zulia) and Carlos Galviz (Movistar). Miguel Ubeto took the overall sprint classification with 13 points, ahead of Wilmen Bravo and Felix Garcia.
Honorio Machado of Alcaldia De Valencia took the overall lead with a timing of 4 hours, 20 minutes and 10 seconds. Marvin Angarita was the runner-up with 3 seconds behind Honorio. Artur Garcia of Kino Tachira-C.Guayan grabbed the third place with a difference
of 6 seconds.
The next stage will start in Jusepin and ended in Aragua de Barcelona. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 188.7 kilometres.
