Angel Cabrera and Carl Pettersson are the proud leaders at the Shell Houston Open
Angel Cabrera and Carl Pettersson are sharing the lead, after the first round of the Shell Houston Open on Thursday, March 29, 2012.
They scored 7-under 65 and competed well for the leading position. Their impressive birdies and appealing strokes took them to the top of the leaderboard.
The first round is not yet complete, as rain showers halted the game at mid day and only 51 players performed on Thursday. The first round will resume on Friday, March 30, at 7:30 am.
Cabrera, the 42-year-old Argentine professional golf player, made seven impressive birdies and was bogey-free till the day-end.
He took the early benefit, as in the morning the course was in favour of the golfers, but after the rainstorm, it became really tough.
"The course is perfect," Cabrera said before the storm. "It's really spectacular and it's right for making a good score. It's just a great day, I did everything well. I'm very happy".
He also shared that he is practising and delivering his best, so that he can boost his confidence for the Masters.
He is focusing more to win the title of the Shell Houston Open so that he can tune-up to lead again at the first major of the year.
"I'm just trying to get to playing good," Cabrera said. "I'm working hard. I really want to play well this week. I want to go into next week with confidence. But this week, I'm focused on here".
Similarly, Pettersson also finished his round before the rainstorm. The 34-year-old Swedish professional golfer enjoyed while scoring tremendously against the field.
He scored eight birdies and a bogey on the 17th hole. His enormous scoring was matched by the Argentinean and both finished on the first position.
"I told myself this morning just to play aggressive and shoot at the pins and see what happens," Pettersson said. "I felt confident with that, but that doesn't always relate to good play".
Pettersson is not in the field of the Masters, hence he is looking forward to win the PGA title, rather than to tune up for the major.
From Friday onwards, due to the rain, all the players will find tough conditions at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas.
To maintain a lead, both have to deliver their best and should also be competitive against the other field rivals.
