Angel Cabrera ready for the Scottish Open
The Scottish Open 2012 is about to start. The fans of the sport are very excited and ready to support their favourites. The 4-day event is being held at the Castle Stuart Golf Links. This event is being held here for the second consecutive time.
Angel Cabrera is trying to walk in the footsteps of his compatriot Eduardo Romero. He is the only player from South America to win the Scottish Open.
He bagged the title by defeating Sweden’s Freddie Jacobson at Loch Lomond in 2002.
Cabrera hopes to win it on the tenth anniversary of Romero’s victory. The 42-year-old is confident that he can win the 2.5 million pounds tournament.
Cabrera is considered to be the most successful player in South America, as he has two wins in the Major Championship.
The first one was in the year 2007, when he won the US Open Championship and the second one came two years later, when he won the Masters Tournament in Augusta.
Cabrera turned professional in 1989, at the time he was just 19 years old. In the past 23 years, the Argentine has bagged 46 professional titles.
Out of these 46 wins, 2 were on the PGA Tour, 5 on the European Tour and one on the Asian Tour.
In last year’s Scottish Open, Cabrera was able to finish tied at the third place, as he had a splendid second round. He will be looking to improve his previous best to win the title this year.
This tournament is not going to be easy for Angel Cabrera as he will be facing the best in the world. The other favourites for the tournament are the world number one Luke Donald, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie and Sandy Lyle.
Throughout his career, Cabrera has shown consistency. He has always been a strong contender for the trophy.
That being said, the other thing that should be considered is that this is going to be a very difficult course and every player would give his best to win this prestigious trophy.
Would he be able to beat the best? Would he emerge as the Champion of the Scottish Open? Nothing can be said now. Only time will tell.
