Former Master Champion Angel Cabrera returns to TPC Sawgrass after a week of rest following his surgery
Former Master Champion, Angel Cabrera, has returned to competitive golf after a week of rest and surgery. The veteran had an abscess in his intestinal tract which was diagnosed at a hospital in Charlotte.
The 41-year-old Argentinean played his first 18 holes on Wednesday, May 11th, during a practice session at the Stadium Course without any trouble. He did not complain about any pain or discomfort.
Meanwhile, his swing coach, Charlie Epps who accompanied him during the session, said that the player was well and could play golf without any serious trouble.
Epps said, “"He feels pretty good. We went to the doctor in Houston Saturday and they said it was healing well and he could go ahead and play golf”.
Cabrera had to withdraw from the Wells Fargo Championship due to a sudden discomfort experienced during the tournament. The player visited a hospital in Charlotte on Monday to get rid of the problem and had a complete medical checkup.
After going through a CAT scan and getting some prescription, the player was allowed to go home.
However, on his second visit to the hospital, the doctors found an abscess in his intestinal cavity, which was causing nausea and burning sensation in his body. The doctors suggested a surgery, which took two days to heal up.
Hence, Cabrera called the tour officials and requested for a withdrawal from the tournament.
After the surgery at the Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville hospital, the player was sent back to his home in Houston for rest.
The 41-year-old returned to Jacksonville on Tuesday, May 9th, to prepare himself for the game. He hit the ball on all 18 holes but showed signs of ailment. The frequent breaks left a negative impact on his form.
This is not the first time Cabrera had to take a withdrawal owing to some medical issue. The player underwent several dental implants in the last two years and had to withdraw due to fitness issues.
With the problem subsided, the player is ready to take the charge on the field at Players Championship, which will include five of the top seven and fifteen of the top 20 players of the world.
