Angel Garcia: What makes me happy is love, my wife, my children – Boxing News
Father and trainer of junior welterweight titlist Danny Garcia, Angel Garcia spoke to RingTV.com regarding a meeting he had with former light welterweight titlist Erik Morales prior to the fight. According to Angel Garcia, the fight was over for them when
they heard of Morales failing two drug tests. Angel iterated that he and Danny were off the road, but just a few hours before the fight, they decided to carry on with it.
“Well, it wasn't begging,” said Angel. “He didn't go to that level. But he was like, 'what's the problem?' and he was like, 'there's a lot of money here.' But I don't give a s--t about the money. He was very sad, I guess, about the money.”
“But the money don't make me happy. What makes me happy is love, my wife, my children. It's my family that makes me happy. I can have all of the money in the world and be miserable. My children are everything.”
He added that Morales was disappointed upon hearing that they are not willing to fight. According to Angel Garcia, he could not be blind and put his family (his son) on the line against a man who was doped.
He then asserted that he spoke to his wife about it in the morning and she asked him to let Danny fight, which was the main reason as to why he let it happen.
Even though Morales had failed drug tests, he could not defeat Danny Garcia. Instead, he was too slow and stationery in the ring to match the speed and power of ‘The Swift’. Garcia knocked out Morales in the fourth round and ended his career. The Mexican
legend announced that he will not be fighting in the United States again, and that he would go for a last fight in Mexico before retirement.
Danny Garcia retained his WBC and WBA light welterweight titles, while Erik Morales headed towards the road of retirement. Morales should be thankful that news of his drug test failure did not spread like wild fire, or else his legendary career would have
ended with disgrace.
