Angel Garcia insists he is not a racist – Boxing News
After passing hideous comments over Amir Khan’s ethnicity and descent, Angel Garcia insists he was just giving ‘his opinion’. Probably, the father and trainer of WBC light welterweight titlist Danny Garcia is unaware of the fact that even an honest opinion
can hurt feelings of millions around the world.
“I haven’t said anything bad,” said Angel, claiming all he said was just the truth.
“They’re calling me a racist, but I’m no racist. Everything I’ve said came out of his (Khan) mouth. He’s the one who said when he got knocked out by Breidis Prescott that it was his God’s will. My God is a loving God, a giving God.”
“I didn’t say anything racist. It’s just like me saying I’ve met a Puerto Rican who can swim. That’s not a racist comment. I didn’t curse. I just have never seen a Pakistani who can fight. That’s my honest opinion as a human being.”
Garcia senior’s defence makes him sound either too naive or too rigid. The world heard him say he has not seen a Pakistani fight and so even Khan will lost. Similarly, he said Khan’s god is a punishing god while his god is a forgiving god.
If Angel believes commenting on a person’s descent or god is not racism than he needs to get his facts checked.
Even now, he insists he has never met a Pakistani who can fight, yet calls it a not-so-racist comment. According to him, he has been on this planet for 49 years and he knows what he is saying.
What is even more agitating for Pakistanis and Muslims around the world is the fact that Angel is now sugar-coating all of it. According to him, this is just his humble opinion and not a discriminatory remark, which is something not many fans are willing
to take, as everyone knows the difference between a humble opinion and a bias comment.
For now, Angel maintains all he uttered during his last interview was the truth, and that the outrage over his comments is unfair since he was just being ‘honest’. Khan has already promised to teach Garcia’s son Danny a lesson in the ring for his impudence,
so probably it is time for Angel to apologise before his son faces the wrath of a Pakistani-British titan who happens to be a Muslim too.
