Angel McCoughtry leads as Atlanta Dream top Los Angeles Sparks 84-79 – WNBA Recap
Angel McCoughtry scored a game-high 23 points to help Atlanta Dream beat Los Angeles Sparks 84-79 at Staples Center on Tuesday night for their second consecutive victory. The victory also snapped two-game winning streak of Los
Angeles.
Five players scored in double figures for Dream. Along with her 23 point blitz, McCoughtry also contributed five assists, four rebounds and two steals. The 24-year-old forward ended with an 8 for 15 shooting from the field and
7 for 10 from free throw line.
Erika de Souza scored a double-double with 18 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Lindsey Harding posted 12 points, five assists and three rebounds while Armintie Price ended with 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Sancho
Lyttle also totalled 10 points, six steals, three rebounds and two blocks for Dream, who have now won seven of their previous 10 games.
DeLisha Milton led Los Angeles with 19 points on 8 for 15 shooting from the field. Milton also grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots.
Candace Parker made a great comeback for the Sparks after missing 15 games in a row with a torn lateral meniscus in her right knee. The 25-year-old forward recorded a double-double before she was ejected from the game in the last
second for arguing a perceived non-call during a frantic scramble for a loose ball on Los Angeles’ final possession. Parker really gave a great effort on both ends of the floor. The player finished with 15 points and ten rebounds, and while she was on the
floor she went for every loose ball that was in her reach.
The top scorer of the show McCoughtry admired Parker post game, “It is a whole different team with her coming back.''
Natasha Lacy came off the bench with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists while Tina Thompson also totalled 10 points and three steals for the Sparks.
Atlanta shot 51.4 percent (37 for 72) from the field and 55.6 percent (10 for 18) from free throw line. Sparks in comparison shot 49.2 percent (32 for 65) from the floor and 54.5 percent (6 for 11) from the line. Los Angeles committed
21 turnovers while the visiting team committed just 15 and also outscored Sparks 54-38 in points in the paint.
Milton-Jones scored 12 points in the first half as Los Angeles carried a 39-37 lead at halftime. Atlanta however made inroad after the break and limited the Sparks to 17 points in the third period to convert the first half deficit
into a four-point lead, 60-56.
The game really caught pace in the final quarter and with 1:02 left on the clock, the game was tied at 79. However, Atlanta responded with five consecutive points down the stretch to squeak out a win.
