Angel di Maria set to sign for his boyhood club Real Madrid

Argentinean wonder kid Angel di Maria is closing in on a move to Real Madrid after apparently telling his current club Benfica that he wants a move away from the Portuguese champions.

Di Maria had been attracting interest from the English Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester City hopeful of securing the signature of the extremely gifted left winger. But the player, who will be appearing and no doubt starring for Argentina at the World Cup, has revealed that his future lies in Spain with the club he has supported all his life, Real Madrid.

Benfica had been holding out for the £33m release clause in di Maria’s contract, but with Madrid refusing to budge on their £25m offer, Benfica are set to offload their star-man for the £25m.

The deal would see two 19-year old Madrid academy players Marcos Alonso and Rodrigo Moreno Machado move to Portugal as a makeweight in the deal.

Despite Real’s interest in di Maria, the Spanish club has made it clear that he was not their first choice of signing. Madrid turned to the 22-year-old after cooling their interest on French winger Franck Ribery, who has since signed a new contract with his current employers Bayern Munich.
