Angela Stanford expected to boost ranking in 2013
American Angela Stanford has been trying to prove her worth on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, but the 2012 season went without a victory.
Stanford, who is one of the most experienced players on the LPGA Tour, has been seen working hard on the course. However, the American star missed plenty of chances to boost her position in world ranking.
Stanford currently stands at the 19th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, but observers have said that the LPGA titan could have done much better in the season.
Stanford had been a bit troubled about her game in the recently concluded season. She could not finish inside the top 10 in any tournament, which shows that her game lacked the vigour that has helped her rack up five victories.
Overall, Stanford has recorded 68 top-10 finishes since turning professional in 2000.
Her best performance was seen at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012. She took the second position, earning an eye-popping $119,765. Stanford carded an overall score of 27. She got off to a fiery start to her campaign as she registered a 66 in the first round.
Despite a strong field that featured key LPGA stars like Inbee Park of South Korea and current world number one Yani Tseng, Stanford did not look under pressure at all. She displayed a stunning performance on the greens and fairways, making balanced shots
on most of the holes.
Speaking to the media during the tournament, Stanford said that she just focused on her nerve and it worked well for her. She pointed out that the weather and the greens were perfect, helping her play a much more refined short game.
The last round of the tournament saw her shoot a 66. She said that it was great reeling off several birdies.
“When you see that somebody's running away with it, you continue to chase them, but then it's also I'd like to be second,” she said.
The Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 also witnessed the American golfer show a solid performance. She took the share of second position as she carded a total score of 273 on the leaderboard. She got off to a fast start a*s she posted a 66 in the first round.
