Angela Stanford finishes runner-up at Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
American Angela Stanford displayed a stunning performance in the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, as she fired an overall 271 to finish second on the leaderboard.
Stanford, who was not among the hot favourites for the 2012 edition of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, proved her mettle and came close to clinching a victory.
The American star was more than thrilled when she moved into contention after shooting a 69 in the third round. She tried to ramp up pressure on rivals on Sunday, but could not stand her ground against South
Korean So Yeon Ryu, who carded an overall score of 264 to win the event.
The score posted by Ryu was big enough for all the contenders, and the match saw Stanford make an all-out effort in the final round. She played well on almost all the holes.
Commentators said that Stanford was one of the few Americans in the roster, who put up a tough fight against battle-hardened Asian rivals. They said that the professional golfer faced trouble at the start,
but from the third round she stepped up effort to do something amazing at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio.
The 34-year-old American kicked off the final round in amazing style as she drained her first birdie on the second hole. She then parred the third but faltered on next hole and ended up carding a bogey.
Regaining her composure, Stanford reeled off another birdie on the par-4 fifth hole.
Speaking to the media about her stunning performance at Ohio, Stanford said that she is more than happy after finishing second, but she could have done a lot better. Explaining her strategy for the final day,
the American prodigy said that she knew the only thing that would help her do fine was patience. She said that she did not lose patience and played each hole carefully.
“I felt really good starting the day. Really calm, and you kind of get the feeling on this course that you're going to have to go low, and I was obviously not low enough today,” the LPGA titan said.
When asked what it was like to play against So Yeon Ryu, she said: “When I looked at the leaderboard on 14 I think she was at ‑16 at that point. I thought, she's obviously having a great day”.
