Angela Stanford gears up for Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
American Angela Stanford, who currently ranks 20th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, is gearing up to face rivals at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, set to start this Thursday at Highland Meadows
Golf Club, Ohio.
The tournament, which is scheduled for August 9-12, is very important for American contenders, as the last edition of the tournament saw South Korean Na Yeon Choi walk away with the coveted title.
Stanford is among the key American players in the roster of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament. The field will feature battle-hardened contenders such as current world number one Yani
Tseng, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Morgan Pressel, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang, Vicky Hurst, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie, Na Yeon Choi, I.K. Kim, Mika Miyazato, Ai Miyazato, Inbee Park and Amy Yang.
As the tournament is being staged in American, the golf crazy local fans are keeping an eye on the national players.
Stanford, who boasts a solid profile on the LPGA Tour, appears to be in high spirits as she kicked off the 2012 season in an impressive style. The American star won the HSBC Women’s Champions in February this
year, and is seeking to add more victories to her profile.
Analysts said that Stanford is a competent player and can give a tough time to her rivals at Ohio, but it remains to be seen how she fares against Asian, especially South Korean contenders.
Na Yeon Choi, who has grabbed much of the attention thanks to the victory at the 2010 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, will be hard to subdue, as she has vowed to defend her title.
“My biggest goal is going to the 2016 Olympics so I felt some atmosphere in there. I could see how much they had pressure but that made me more excited. My goal is still going in 2016 to the Rio Olympics and
I had a very fun time,” the young South Korean said.
“I feel very comfortable now. I have confidence with my swing and the main thing is the greens here a very small so I have to hit the green first then I can make a lot of putts”.
