Angela Stanford says Guadalajara Country Club her favourite course
American Angela Stanford, who won the 2008 Lorena Ochoa Invitational, is ready to treat herself to another win when she tees off at the upcoming edition of the tournament this Thursday.
The Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 is set to start from November 8-11, at Guadalajara Country Club—a course that boasts several challenging holes and favourable weather conditions.
Stanford is among a strong lineup featuring almost all the big names on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour, but her status is a little more important than her rivals.
Being one of the past winners of the prestigious tournament, the American star is being expected to unveil her best skills on the course this week.
Sharing her thoughts during her pre-tournament interview to the LPGA Tour here on Wednesday, Stanford said that she is sure she can repeat the 2008 performance this year too, but the competitions is going to be tougher than the previous year.
The LPGA titan said that she is not only inspired by the event’s hype and a fearsome lineup, but also the course and atmosphere of Guadalajara.
“I have to echo all of that. Obviously since the first year,  I fell in love with Guadalajara and the Guadalajara Country Club and any time you have a hostess such as Lorena you´re going to have a great event so I love coming down here every year,” said Stanford who has won five LPGA titles so far in her professional career.
“First off I think this is one of the best golf courses we play on our schedule I feel very honoured I got to be the first winner and caught everybody off guard a little bit”.
American fans, who after a series of defeats national players faced at the hands of Asians, are expecting Stanford to bring the title back home once again.
Commentators said that it had become somewhat boring for golf enthusiasts in the United States to see Asian players winning events after events.
They said that the recent LPGA tour to Asia has once again exposed the real talent Americans and Europeans enjoyed before Asians dominated women’s golf two or three years back.
Stacy Lewis of the United States won the Mizuno Classic 2012, held in Japan last week.
