Angela Stanford thinks her game is in good shape now
American Angela Stanford has said that she has been going through changes in her game lately, but her current form seems to have got on track.
Stanford is gearing up to take part in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012, slated to kick off from November 8-11, at the Guadalajara Country Club, Mexico, but one thing that has gripped her fans’ attention is her spiralling confidence.
Speaking to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour during her latest interview on Wednesday, Stanford said that she has shaped her game to such an extent that she is now able to give a tough time to any player.
“The year I won I was hitting it a certain way and for a couple of years I was shaping it differently actually going the other way. So to come back this year and see I´m shaping it right again, it’s nice to see,” said the 34-year-old American who has won five LPGA titles so far.
She said that she is confident her local fans will get behind her, as she knows the course well. “I think it´s interesting to come back each year”.
On the question of what it feels like to play in a small field, Stanford said that she is not worried about the size of the lineup, as most of the confirmed players are experienced.
“I would say rewarding, because it is a small field, we have a great hostess and the guacamole and honestly for me it’s a great reward for me”.
Stanford won the 2008 edition of Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and this is why she is taking her game more seriously as she has vowed not to let down her fans.
The four-day tournament is going to pit key LPGA stars against each other, but the spotlight will likely remain on the past winners.
Four past winners, including Stanford, have pledged to maintain their reputation at the event, which reflects that grabbing a victory will not be easy for other top-ranked contenders.
Defending champion Catriona Matthew, who won the last edition of the tournament, is being regarded as the hot favourite for the tournament, as the veteran golfer has vowed to keep the title within Scotland.
In addition to Matthew, other two winners, American Michelle Wie and South Korean I.K. Kim, also cannot be written off.
