Angela Stanford ties for third in second round at Vancouver

American Angela Stanford moved into a tie for the third position in the second round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, as she battled hard against rivals maintaining the momentum.
Stanford was one of the few American contenders who gave a tough time to their formidable Asian rivals, but her performance grabbed much of the spotlight on Friday at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
The American star kicked off the second round with an aim to improve her position on the leaderboard, and she amazed the Canadian spectators by showing her trademark putting skills.
She drained her first birdie on the par-4 second hole, however, she could not maintain her grip on the club when she played the difficult par-3 third hole, carding a bogey. She then parred the next two holes
in an attempt to regain her composure.
Commentators said that the Vancouver Golf Club is not an easy course, as it features a number of tricky holes, and players usually find it hard to make perfect putts.
However, the American golfer kept her head straight and did her best. Stanford gathered some pace after parring the seventh and eighth, and launched her second birdie on the ninth in the hope of offsetting
the impact of two early bogeys.
On the back nine, her performance was much better, but she made another bogey on the 15th.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Stanford said that she was aware of the challenging course and a fearsome field, but most of the day she struggled to remain in contention.
Although rattled due to a tough battle she fought against experienced rivals, Stanford was keen to point out that she was pretty good when it came to confidence as she did not lose hope till the final moment
of the second round.
“Today was definitely a battle.  I think if you look up the definition of grinding, you'd see a picture of me today, so that's good.  I've had a lot of confidence the last couple of weeks and kind of lost my
swing today,” the American golfer said.
“But sometimes that helps because I think, well, the next shot will be a better one.  The next shot is a new shot.  At least my confidence was up out there battling”.
