Angelica Harris upbeat about her performance at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Memorial Junior Golf Championship
Angelica Harris has set her sights on winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Memorial Junior Golf Championship, when she tees off this week at the Lakewood Golf Club, on December 28, 2012.
The two-day tournament is set to feature 78 boys and girls, who have confirmed to contend against each other in the 2013 edition of the event.
Talking to the reporters, Harris said that she worked on her short game in the past few weeks, which can help her in competing strongly in the event.
She is currently lauded as one of the hot favourites to win the tournament, because of her stunning track record at the venue course.
About two months ago, she won the women’s open division in The Mackel golf tournament. The tournament was the amateur championship of the New Orleans area and was staged at the Lakewood Golf Club.
According to the freshman from McGehee, her putting and chipping techniques had always been the best of her weaponry. However, she still believes that tweaking them can make her the best in the field.
“I feel really good going into this, very positive,” said Harris. “I’ve been playing well the last few months, competing in a lot of events. I’ve worked really hard on my swing and short game. I’ve always felt chipping and putting were my strengths but I’m still working to get better”.
Harris has now become one of the premier players in the metro area, because of her impressive performances in the past few months.
In May, she shot a 148 in a two-day tournament, at the state high school meet, to finish second on the leaderboard. Lana Hodge of Ouachita Christian won the tournament after posting a 144 on the leaderboard.
Harris expressed her wish to record a victory in the state event in the time to come.
“Winning state is a real big goal of mine next spring,” Harris said. “But I’m really excited about (the Tommy Moore Memorial). It’s becoming a big event and it’s where you really want to play well. There are some girls coming from out of state so it’ll be a good test”.
