Angelique Kerber upsets Johanna Larsson in quarterfinal – Texas Open 2011
During the quarter final of the Texas Open 2011 the second upset was between Swede Johanna Larsson and German Angelique Kerber. Two had duelled on hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas. World number 107 Kerber ousted
world number 64 in only 45 minutes of play by achieving a bagel (6-0) and bread stick victory (6-1).
Meeting for the first time 23 year old Kerber proved her mettle. She had an immaculate precision and committed zero double faults and had managed to get 69% of her first serves on target.
With an exceptional serve of a 75% win in the total service points against Swede Larsson, who had a pitiable 25% win in the total return points., she was able to break her opponent 3 out of the 4 times.
Moreover, Kerber not only had an exceptional serve but was able to rebound almost all her opponent’s shots which enabled her to achieve a praiseworthy 75% of her total return points.
By achieving 24 out of 32 points, making it a grand win of 75% of her total set points, Kerber bagged the set and also by not letting her opponent win a single game in the set.
As she power played in the first set, she set the pitch for the second. Although, Kerber had struck one double fault, she was able to save all her break point opportunities.
With a strong serve she won a good 67% of her total service points, against Larsson who, could only muster a 33% win in the total return points.
By hitting and placing drop shots which were almost impossible for her foe to play, the 23-year-old German attained 12 out of 20 points, making it an excellent 60% of her total return points in opposition to the 23 year-old Swede,
who mustered 8 out of 20, making it a 40% win of the total service points.
Angelique Kerber was a stronger player out of the two and by breaking her Swedish opponent twice she bagged the set and also by achieving a total set score of 30 out of 47 points, making it a 64% win she was able to secure a place
in the semi final of the Texas Open 2011
