Angelique Kerber vs. Sara Errani: Quarter-Final Preview – French Open 2012
World number 10, Angelique Kerber, will lock horns with the 24th ranked Italian, Sara Errani, in the quarter-final of the Roland Garros French Open on Tuesday. It will be a cracking showdown considering that both the
contenders are in terrific form and likes to play aggressively against their competitors to take hold of the proceedings.
Earlier this year, same draw was carried out in the second round of the Moorila Hobart International where the German number one slaughtered the Italian tennis ace in straight sets. However, Errani is fuming to give a better account
of her resistance this time round and probably pick up another upset on her to the semi-final of the year’s second Grand Slam tournament.
Recent victims for both players feature some big names especially for the German contender who has shown great enthusiasm and ability to climb multiple ranks to break into the Top-10 players of the world. The left-handed German
superstar has defeated the likes of her compatriot, Julia Goerges, world number four, Petra Kvitova, and Italian tennis icon, Flavia Pennetta, in her previous ten encounters.
On the other hand, Errani has devastated the likes of the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, and Russian 26th seed starlet, Svetlana Kuznetsova, in the last two rounds respectively to book a date with the German.
So, it is clear that she will not hold anything back against in the quarter-final showdown and try to clasp yet another victory under her belt.
Both players have stunned the tennis fanatics by registering some monumental victories especially the two all round clean sweeps from the Italian who washed out everyone in Barcelona and Acapulco to clinch both the singles and
doubles  titles. Kerber has impressed with her triumph over the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, in Copenhagen final when she stripped the Dane of her title at her home soil.
The confidence is definitely going to be pretty high at both sides but the odds probably tilt in favour of the German just because she has been a bit more consistent. She also has an advantage of being a left-handed player and
Errani will have to adjust her game to make sure that she doesn’t give easy points. The Italian is yet to face a left-handed player in the French Open so that might affect her game a bit. However, these professionals are trained to manipulate their game style
in any situation and this should not be a great problem for someone who has been in tremendous touch in the recent past.
For me, the German number one is definitely the hot favourite to win the contest. However, the chances of upsets are equally likely. Kuznetsova who slaughtered the third seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the third round was brutally
plonked by the Italian. So, if she can overpower a former French Open champion with a bagel in the opening set, she can easily dismantle the confidence of the German as well. Kerber is the one who has to win it because Errani has nothing to lose at all.
