World number eight, Angelique Kerber, has suddenly hit the new heights of fame with her semi-final finish to the Wimbledon Championships on Thursday. He couldn’t even pass the opening round stage at the previous edition of this
championship and there she is amongst the last four players of the tournament. Such is the improvement being seen in the game style of the left-handed German superstar, who is wanted by everyone these days.
She was having a dinner; chicken, rice and strawberries when she heard a loud voice asking her to rush to the locker room before she misses out the company of the legendary tennis icon from the history of women tennis. She left
everything there and flew down the stairs, crossed the bridge like a batman and reached the players’ clubhouse. Just a wait of five minutes unleashed the glamorous tennis ace, Steffi Graf, walking down the tunnel.
Kerber explained her delighted in following words, “It was unbelievable. I don’t know how to call it — goose bumps?” She further added, “I go out here and everybody’s asking me for photos and autographs. I enjoy it. For sure, it’s
better than last year.”
It has been a terrific year so far for the German tennis ace who was nowhere to be found amongst the Top-100 players until the mid of last season. The expression of satisfaction was glowing on her face when she further added, “In
my heart, tennis is my life. But I knew that I needed to practice harder.”
She further commented, “I decided this is what I want because — I mean, I missed something in my life, and this was tennis. I was sitting there thinking, ‘Do this, because that’s actually maybe your last chance.’ ”
Several people have also commented on her improvement over the course of the year. Mary Joe Fernandez is one of her admirer. She is the one who is amongst the list of analysts of tennis players at ESPN. She commented, “It’s a joke
how much she’s improved. I mean, it is. She has no holes in her game. She doesn’t beat herself, and she’s a great competitor.”
Kerber will definitely groom into a world class act. She is next biggest threat to any contestant after the likes of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. She might have lost to the third seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the semi-final
clash but she was not on top of her game that day; otherwise she is virtually unstoppable when she gets going.
