Angelo Mathews, the vice captain of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 would be a plus point for his team when they open their tri-series campaign by playing the world champions at the WACA ground in Perth tomorrow,
February 8, 2012.
The 24-year-old all-rounder, however, urged his side against complacency and said that the Indians are still a formidable one day side and could come really hard, if taken lightly.
"They haven't played well in Tests and that's a plus point for us which we can take into the game,” said Mathews speaking to media reporters ahead of the series opener. “But it's a different team when it comes to ODIs. They are current world champions. They
could come really hard at us," he warned.
Dhoni and his men go into the match at the back of a 4-0 Test series humiliation at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 which was followed by a moral sapping 65-run defeat to the same opposition in the first One Day International of the tri-nation series at the Melbourne
Cricket Ground.
Throwing caution to the wind, Mathews said that the Indians are a world class team known for bouncing back after a series of dismal performances, so it would be dangerous on the part of the Lankans to underestimate the out of form world champions. He urged
his teammates to be at their best if they are to prove a point after a nightmarish spell of six months, which saw the Islanders lose almost all the series they played.
"India are a pretty good side and we can't underestimate them at any stage," the all-rounder said.
“They can come hard at us at any time. They're a world class team and they're the current world champions so we've got to play good cricket and be on our toes at all times," he added further.
The Sri Lankan team on the other hand, enter the series at the back of impressive performances in the last two ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. But the Islanders are short of match practice and could struggle to adjust to the conditions Down Under. The Lankans
had struggled to get acclimatized to the conditions in South Africa but Mathews urged the side to get accustomed to the Australian conditions pretty quickly to get the results.
