Angelo Mathews not ready to give up on bowling – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913, the Sri Lankan vice-captain, is not ready to give up on his bowling and wants to be reckoned among the world’s top all-rounders, despite having struggled with fitness issues in the last couple of years.
The 25-year-old cricketer is considered to be one of the finest players produced by the Island in the last five years, and in his short career so far Mathews has already won a number of matches for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Because of his ability to change gears according to different situations in a match and a temperament to absorb pressure, the middle-order batsman has earned the reputation of a ‘finisher’.
On top of that, the cricketer from Colombo is more than handy with the ball, having the ability to bowl consistently on good areas and trouble the batsmen with seam movement. Some former cricketers however, have advised him to quit
bowling and focus on just batting in order to prolong his career.
While talking to ESPNcricinfo, Mathews expressed that batting is his forte without a shadow of doubt but he enjoys his bowling as well. The all-rounder wants to continue enhancing his skills in all departments of the game.
"I see myself as more of a batting all-rounder. I'd like to improve my bowling. But in the recent past, I think I've been bowling pretty well. But that's certainly an area I need to work on," said Mathews. "Overall, I feel like I'm
doing all right in both departments. Having said that, I still have a long way to go and there is still a lot to learn."
The Sri Lankan vice-captain is of the view that injuries are a part and parcel of the game and he is not ready to quit bowling at this stage of his career.
"Bowlers do tend to get injured more often but that's part of the game. And just because I've been injured a few times I'm not willing to give up my bowling," the budding cricketer added.
