The Torino defender has stated that he was unsure of his presence in Cesare Prandelli’s final selection for the European tournament; insists that it is a dream come true for him.
Angelo Ogbonna has expressed his delight after being made a part of the Azzurri coach’s final 23-man squad for Euro 2012, and insists that wearing the blue jersey is the realization of a dream for him.
The Torino centre-back was part of Cesare Prandelli’s 25-man squad for the upcoming Euros, and was perceived to be in direct competition with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrea-Ranocchia-c5708 for the last defender’s spot.
Ogbonna stated that he was oblivious to his status in the final squad, and revealed that he was overjoyed to hear that he has been selected by the Azzurri chief. The Toro defender stated that it is an honour to be a part of the
Nazionale, and stated that wearing Italy’s jersey is dream come true for him.
The Granata centre-back stated that he is unmindful of the exact reason that led Cesare Prandelli to choose him for the Euros, but insisted that he will leave no stone unturned to find a place in the playing eleven, even if for
a few minutes.
While talking to the press, the 24-year-old said:
“I didn’t know anything until the final moments and then I understood that my dream had come true. I don’t know specifically why Prandelli chose me, but I’m thankful and I’ll give my all to find some space in the team – even if
that is just for five minutes of action.”
Despite playing for a Serie B side, the Torino player has earned a reputation for his ability to perform equally well in the centre-back and right-back positions.
The lustre of his talent has also caught the eye of many top clubs, who now want to acquire the services of the Toro defender.
Ogbonna stated that his sole focus is Italy’s next game against Russia, and insisted that he will leave the transfer talk to his agent.
“My future is taking one day at a time. That’s why I’m just thinking about Friday’s game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 for now. I concentrate on playing as I’m not interested in club matters, my agents look after things like that.”
Ogbonna has recently extended his contract with Torino to last until 2016.
