Angelo Que gets into contention from the first round at the CIMB NIAGA Indonesian Masters – Golf News
Angelo Que carded a three-under par 69 in the opening round of the CIMB NIAGA Indonesian Masters at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club to get into contention from the very first moment.
Que has appeared in eight tournaments this year on the Asian Tour and made the cut four times. His best finish came in the ICTSI Philippine Open, where he tied for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
He is now aiming to improve his record by earning at least a top-10 position in the second edition of the Indonesian Open.
He carded a total of four birdies against a lone bogey to finish four strokes behind the leader, Lee Westwood, who managed to record a score of seven-under par 65.
According to Que, he was greatly helped by the national coach Bong Lopez in bringing positive improvements in his swing technique.
Therefore, his shot-making skills have improved in the past one week prior to coming to Indonesia.
If he continues to play consistently the way he played in the first round, he can definitely challenge his rivals on top of the leaderboard on Sunday evening.
However, this is also a major concern for him since the past few months, as he is lacking consistency in each of the tournaments that he plays.
Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in 2010 was the last tournament that witnessed him surge to the top and earn the third Asian Tour victory of his career.
Meanwhile, Westwood continued his great form and carded a total of nine birdies against two bogeys to take the top spot on Thursday.
Westwood is the defending champion and hot favourite for a win in the event. In addition to that, he has the chance of reclaiming his top position in the Official World Golf Rankings with a win in the event.
According to him, he does not care much about the rankings, as his main focus is on displaying a good game on the course.
Moreover, he wants to keep his momentum going in the remaining three major championships of the year, in order to earn the first victory of his career.
