Angelo Que takes early clubhouse lead at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship
Angelo Que of Philippines fired a bogey-free seven-under par 65 on Thursday, to take an early clubhouse lead, in the opening round of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship.
He now sits one shot better than the Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar and Jason Knutzon of the United States.
Both the players also posted flawless rounds at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club, to share the second spot on the leaderboard.
Que is currently looking forward to ending his two-year title drought on the Asian Tour. Therefore, it was a perfect start to his campaign in Taipei, as he can now expect to finish the tournament on a high note, after a long time.
“Normally when I start well, I feel that I may find ways to mess it up coming in. Somehow I trusted myself today and committed every shot, as well as commit to what my plan was, which is to keep the ball in play and so far, I’ve managed to pull that off,”
He said.
Que started on the back nine of the course, with a run of two straight birdies on the first two holes that he played. He reached the turn with a four-under par score, thanks to another two birdies on the 16th and 18th hole.
On the front nine, he did not stop playing good strokes and earned another three shots to surge to the top of the leaderboard early in the morning.
“At one point, I didn’t know how many under I was at and didn’t really care about my scores. I just kept going and concentrate in playing,” said Que. “I haven’t been in this position for a while. ...Hopefully I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and stay
committed to what I’m doing”.
In the meantime, Bhullar also showed his brilliance, despite playing on the venue course for the first time in his career.
While talking to the Asian Tour’s website, he stated that the course layout, especially the greens, reminded him of the courses back home in India.
He told that he felt really comfortable while attacking the pins and created a number of birdie chances throughout the day.
