Angie Bainbridge claims Women’s 200m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Angie Bainbridge of Hunter, NSW claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 22-year-old Bainbridge spoiled the party of her opponents in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as she went home swelling with the pride after clinching crown of the event.
Bainbridge showered her expertise in the 200m discipline and proved her mettle for gold medal by submitting a wonderful time of 1 minute and 55.16 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jessica Morrison of Melbourne VIC, who stayed two body lengths apart and secured silver medal of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 56.93 seconds.
Morrison was followed by Blair Evans of Perth City, who was only 0.17 seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 57.10 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, who stayed only 0.24 seconds behind and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.34 seconds.
Stubbins was followed by Amelia Gould of SOPAC, NSW, who was full body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.22 seconds for fifth position.
Gould was traced by Ellen Fullerton of Chandler, QLD, who stayed 0.17 seconds apart and settled on the wall as sixth best swimmer with an effort of 1 minute and 58.39 seconds.
Seventh best place of the race was obtained by Amy Levings of Unattached, QLD, who was just a stroke apart and emerged on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.73 seconds.
Levings was trailed by Megan Gianotti of Waterworx, QLD, who stayed one and a half body length behind and completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 00.26 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Bainbridge was satisfied with her dominating form in concluding event of the championship and said that she would struggle hard to achieve the same in future events.
