Angie Bainbridge clinches Women’s 400m freestyle title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Angie Bainbridge of Australia clinched gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The Australian swimmer spoiled the party of her opponents in the 16-lap race and proved her mettle for top spot on the podium.
With her unrelenting efforts, Bainbridge enjoyed an advantage of one arm-stroke over her toughest contender as she raked the title with a wonderful timing of 4 minutes and 04.01 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who stayed 0.13 seconds apart and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for second position by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 04.14 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Jessica Pengelly of South Africa, who stayed two body lengths slower and ended her race in third place by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 06.08 seconds.
Pengelly was chased by Leah Cutting of Australia, who was four body lengths slower from overpowering her former finisher and settled on the finishing wall for fourth position by producing a time of 4 minutes and 10.49 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position of the event was obtained by Alanna Bowles of Australia, who was only 0.19 seconds behind and completed her race in a time of 4 minutes and 10.68 seconds.
Bowles enjoyed a benefit of Laura Crockart of Australia, who stayed nearly 0.50 seconds slower and posted a time of 4 minutes and 11.25 seconds for sixth position.
Crockart was traced by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who suffered a loss of two body lengths from Crockart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 13.67 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Jessica Marston of New Zealand, who was unable to upset any of her competitors and reached the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 18.84 seconds.
Furthermore, Bainbridge received a huge round of applause from the aquatic crowd after the victory and said that she would continue her hard work to excel in the same discipline.
