Angie Bainbridge outperforms Sarah Sjostrom in Women’s 200m freestyle heats – Swimming World Cup
Angie Bainbridge of Australia went full throttle in the Women’s 200m freestyle heats and outperformed Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on the initial day of 2011 Swimming World Cup in Stockholm,
on Saturday, October 15.
The swimming World Cup is a seven-stop series planned by international aquatics sport governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Bainbridge proved her dominance over her challengers in the eight-lap freestyle event. With her scintillating efforts, she remained prominent for the top qualification spot throughout her race.
The 21-year-old Australian gained a considerable lead over her competitors in the first round of the race, where she posted a time of 26.74 seconds for the first 50m of the swim as opposed to Sjostrom’s 27.33 seconds effort. With her persistent efforts,
Bainbridge extended her lead to 1.52 seconds from her rival, posting a time of 55.48 seconds for the first half of the race.
In the second half of the race, the Australian veteran maintained her momentum to dictate terms to her rivals as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 25.36 seconds for the third round. Finally, the champion enhanced her pace in the final round and cemented
her fastest qualification spot in the final by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.18 seconds.
With her notable efforts, she kept her rival almost a half body-length away from her. She remained 1.37 seconds ahead of Sjostrom, who earned second fastest spot by producing a time of 1 minute and 56.55 seconds.
The third finest spot of the race was obtained by Daniela Schreiber of Germany, who was 1.56 seconds slower than her former finisher and entered the final with a timing of 1 minute and 58.11 seconds.
The crowd appreciated splendid efforts of all participants while the final of the 200m event will take place in today’s second session, where the top-eight finishers will compete with each other to secure a podium finish.
