    Water proofing of the leaves and stems to reduce water loss.  Conduction system to transport nutrients and water.  Extensive root systems to obtain water and minerals.  Reproductive system to maximize the successful production and distribution of seeds.  Development of protective coverings for seeds to increase survival of the seeds.
