i own a registerd ex-race horse thoroughbred and i am planing on breeding her to an arabian stallion. i do not have her papers, and have no clue how to get them.

the trainer ignored the previous owners request. and i know some times they keep them so they will not be raced again but i want them!

she raced out of new york.

Does anyone know what i have to do to register the foal, can i just go off the stallions papers?

any help would be appreciated.

would it be easier to just breed her to a tb?

yet i reallly really want an anglo arab as i love arabians!

  1. What the other Greyt-mom said.

FWIW, in your case I don't see what the necessity is for papers, unless you intend to show your anglo-Arab as a half Arabian in Arab shows.  Even if you don't have papers, you still would have an Anglo-Arab.  If the foal turns out to be a colt, and you end up gelding him, then the papers are completely irrelevant, unless you intend to show in Arab shows.

With regard to the trainer ignoring the previous owner's request, I'm just guessing, but it might be that the previous owner owed the trainer money and is holding onto the papers as a "lien" against the horse.  If that's the case, then you might try to find out from the racing office at the track, the office that deals with horsemen's affairs and disbursement of purses, etc., if the trainer registered a lien on the owner for unpaid bills.  They might be able to help you, but if the trainer is owed money and wants to get payment, you may be out of luck.

In addition to the information Greyt-mom included in her post, you might consider contacting the Performance Horse Registry:  http://www.phr.com/index.php and find out what their requirements for registration are.  This registry was started by The Jockey Club to allow registration of the offspring of Thoroughbred horses intended for use in sports lie eventing, jumping, and dressage; I don't know if they could register your mare's offspring without her papers, but you could call them and ask.

If your mare raced, she has a tattoo, and you could use that to help establish her identity, although this would not constitute registration papers.  Check this out:  http://www.tjcis.com/otherServicesDispla...

I think what you need to do is contact the registry offices that you are interested in registering the foal through, explain your situation, and ask them about registration criteria and what you need to do to register the foal.

Good luck to you, and remember that even if you cannot get registration papers for the foal you desire, you could still have a dynamite riding horse.  When all is said and done, registration papers really only matter if you intend to show the horse in shows that require papers, or if you intend to breed registered horses of some kind.  There are many champions in open equestrian events, even the Olympics, that do not have papers.

  2. You need to submit a copy of the mare's registration with your registration form for the foal.  You can read all the requirements at the Arabian Horse Association's registration page http://www.arabianhorses.org/registratio...

You can request a copy of your horse's papers from the Jockey Club but you will need a copy of the bill of sale and a notarized letter from the previous owner or his agent explaining what happened to the original papers.  I don't quite understand the part of your question regarding the owner and trainer being in disagreement about the papers so you may be able to get one of them to sign the letter.  However if in your bill of sale it says that the horse was sold "without pedigree" then you are out of luck, as you did not purchase papers with your horse.  If it does not say anything about papers you could potentially sue the previous owners in small claims court.  You can read the Jockey Club rules at this website, scroll down to #5, 6   https://www.registry.jockeyclub.com/regi...

If you absolutely cannot get the papers on your mare you may wish to contact the AHA and ask for more advice.
