Anglo-Saxon Lifestyles + Men and Women's Roles?

I'm doing a research paper on the lifestyles of both genders, but I mainly find information on the Women's roles and how they were so mistreated. I need more in depth information on both. Especially the men.

Internet links would be beneficial, or any information that any of you know would help out so much!

  1. Serving cup would have been seen as an honour-the Queen wouldn't have minded.

most of the books I read on the subject (some years ago) seemed to imply that a saxon woman had rather a better lot than many of her contemporaries. Basically she often held the keys to the household and had a fair bit of power in her own right while the hubby was off fighting or whatever. Certainly there are Saxon graves found where the women were obviously someone of importance due to their fine jewellery and accompaniments. I also believe they could hold land in their own right and seek divorces.

  2. The male role was protector and warrior they rarely worked , It would have been considered to be beneath them as they were a warrior society. , the female role was weaving farming and when entertaining she was always the cup holder , there are records of some women warriors although they were rare , Saxon women were thought of as of equal value as men indeed when they were courted many had a choice of whom to marry although in some families the father chose for her .That usually depended on their position in society, It was usual  when when being married the maid would be given land and jewelry and it was hers to dispose of it as she saw fit not her husband . You must remember that Saxons held slaves , so the women of the house usually had help with her work .
