Hi,

I’ve been trying to complete this Austswim certificate/get a job at my local swimming pool as a swim teacher for children, but they’re giving me a hard time, and it’s really pissing me off.

They keep saying I’m not good enough, but 90% of the swim teachers at the pool really suck, anyway I don’t think it’s very fair that the swimming pool is busting my rear like this because i have been doing an excellant job, I’ve been doing even better than the other swim teachers, and they think they can tell me that I’m no good, sounds like tall poppy syndrome to me, I’m not being up myself by the way they really do suck.

Only 10% of the teachers there, actually know how to teach.

I’m beginning to think that maybe they’re all just racist or something, wouldn’t want another ethnic working in a traditional Aussie setting etc.

I don’t know what they’re problem is with me, but it’s definitely not my swim teaching.

I don’t think it’s fair that there are lazy, incompetent, swim teachers out there who get they’re certificate handed down to them on a silver platter while I have to work my rear off.

Just wondering if there were any other swim teachers out there going through the same thing, and wondering how to pass this stupid certificate.

Most swimming pools keep claiming how they are so desperate for swim teachers, and then they give me and others a hard time, doesn’t look all that desperate to me.

  1. maybe try to talk or find other place to help or get from.  wish you luck

  2. Ugh, that situation sounds awful

Do they even explain what is they have a problem with? I really hope they aren't being racial about this....If that happened to me it would make me want to push even harder, but if they are being like that, you deserve to be at a better place.

  3. It's hard to know what is going on given only one side of the story, especially when you are throwing around words like "lazy" and "incompetent," but I'll try to give you the benefit of the doubt.

    (1) Ask the decision makers to give you a written list of what you need to improve in order to earn the certificate. Make sure each item is objective and measurable (e.g. "get better" and "improve attitude" are not measurable). If there is bias in how you are evaluated, at least you will force them to put it in black and white.

    (2) Stop comparing yourself to others and how they are treated. You have no control over that -- it will only drive you crazy. Trust me: Name calling does not improve your case.

    (3) Will the same people who are giving you such a hard time be your management after you receive your certificate? If so, you might need to move on. Perhaps this is an isolated situation. Regardless, I don't see why you would want to "succeed" in an environment that is so hostile to you.

It looks like you are in a difficult situation. Good luck working it out.

  4. Are you Asian/black/Indian?  or something?  I am so sorry that the bureaucracy is treating you as it has treated minorities for centuries.  maybe try another pool/city/area?

But know that God looks at your HEART and not the externals.  Keep up with integrity, honesty, kindness and serenity.  And besides all this:  Love, and love everyone.

  5. I'm not a swimmer or swim teacher or anything, but I do sympathize and I know what it means to be rejected and persecuted even when you do your best. Really, I know!

I was a good spouse and an average guy, and then my mean ex and her judge and therapist girlfriends had my committed for nothing--nothing! I'm confined at home now--have been for 3 years! I can't go out, can't have a life, can't even wear clothes (seriously! In my own home!). I am kept under strict guidelines all the time! My life is miserable and I can't fight it anymore. They won.

The lesson is, some games you just can't win. It all sucks. Just decide whether to keep fighting it or call it quits and seek others who will treasure your talents.
