Rovio’s latest bird launching title beats of OMGPOP’s Draw Something as the most downloaded title on the App Store. That too the paid chart, Ka-ching!
Angry Birds is easily one of the most downloaded games on the iOS and Android devices. The fact that it was later released for consoles, PCs and web browsers means that it could even be the most downloaded game of all time.
If the figures of the latest game in the series are anything to go by then Rovio’s bank account balance is set to swell to even greater proportions and could very well exceed the GDP of many developing countries.
Angry Birds Space launched earlier in the week and it barely took the game a few days to top the download charts, knocking off OMGPOP’s Draw Something off first place.
In fact, analysts are predicting that Angry Birds Space downloads could send the overall series over the one-billion downloads mark over the course of the next couple of months. At the rate the latest game is going, that could very well happen sooner rather
than later.
Rovio’s latest game changes up the gameplay dynamics of the game drastically. While the core objective of the game is still the same ‘launch birds into structures to take out the evil green pigs’ everything else has received a major overhaul.
This time around players have to content with changing or, at times, no gravity and have a few new types of birds at their disposal as well including our new favourite, a blue bird that instantly freezes anything that it comes into contact with.
Draw Something’s developer, OMGPOP, was recently acquired by Zynga games in a deal worth over $200-million and the game remains at the top of the free download charts. However, Draw Something never really had any real competition and it would be interesting
to see how the game manages to sell in the face of the final frontier filled with Angry Birds.
One can expect plenty more Angry Birds Space content in terms of DLC, as the game only has a limited number of worlds and puzzles for the players to solve that is of course, only for the time being.
